Our First Sewing Class Has Made It!

What was to be an 6-week class for learning basic sewing skills in our Island 1st Branch,
turned into a 10-week class instead.
Learning to use a sewing machine, how to hem pants, how to cut out and sew a skirt, and how to make bias tape to trim that skirt took longer than I anticipated.  But, mostly because these sisters have several things to attend on Sunday mornings, such as Branch Presidency meetings, Piano class, Institute, and Self-reliance class.  So time is limited to just one hour each week.
This is what you would see on the 3rd floor of the Wan Chai building Sunday mornings.
Wilma, Christy, and Maribel using the skills they have learned in our class.

Having four sisters each sewing in a 6'x8' room gets a little cozy,
especially with an ironing board in there too.
It doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room, but we made it work.

Below is the end result of what has been learned these past several weeks.
I am so pleased with how well they each did with their sewing projects, and they should be too.
Wilma
Christy
Maribel
Joy and Lolita
Lolita assisted in the class, and was a tremendous help because of her previous working experience.
I believe she was better qualified to teach the class than myself.
In fact, she designed and sewed the dress she is wearing,
and impressed us all with her ability to do so.
  It turned out so nicely.

I have enjoyed serving with Lolita as we both helped these sisters learn a skill that can help them become more self-reliant.
It has been great to see them do so well in making their skirts,
and to be pleased with what they accomplished.

The best part has been getting to know these women better
 and discovering their wonderful personalities.

Next week, the fun begins again with a new group of sisters.

That is great! I wonder if I could get someone to do that here? Hmm, maybe your next mission in Texas? :)

Anything is possible, I suppose.

They all look so great! How great it is that your sharing your talent and knowledge with others so that they may do those things as well! I believe that is what we all should do as much as we can. I can't wait to see what the next group creates!
